Strength training reforms your bones. It is a crazy process, known as bone remodeling. During this process, old bone is absorbed by the body and new bone tissue is created to support the weight bearing exercises. This reformation of bone is an excellent health benefit to our bodies. We become stronger, more flexible, agile, mobile, and well balanced. Strength training burns calories, regulates blood sugar, decreases visceral fat (stomach fat), decreases our risk of falls and injury, boosts our mood and our brain health, and promotes a better quality of life.
High intensity cardio and running deplete the body of muscle mass, making us more susceptible to injury. When we are solely focused on high intensity cardio, our body triggers a signal to work to become lighter and faster. In order to become lighter and faster, the first thing the body chooses to burn off is our muscle mass. After a sufficient amount of muscle mass is burned, then the body begins to burn fat. Therefore, if you want to lose weight, remain stable and agile, and mobile as we get older, strength training is a much more beneficial, healthy, and safe choice over cardio. 🖤
